Elise Gingrich DVM, MPH, MS, DACVPM, DABVP (Shelter Medicine Practice)
Senior Director, Shelter Medicine Shelter Services, ASPCA
Dr. Elise Gingrich is a Senior Director of Shelter Medicine with the ASPCA. She earned her DVM from Iowa State University in 2005. After 2 years in private practice, she completed a shelter medicine residency at Colorado State University. During her residency, Dr. Gingrich completed her MPH (through the University of Iowa) in 2007 and earned her MS in Clinical Sciences in 2010. After her residency, Dr. Gingrich worked in municipal and private shelters in Wisconsin and Colorado for nine years before joining the ASPCA in 2019. She is board certified in Shelter Medicine Practice by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners and is also board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine. Dr. Gingrich was a member of the organizing committee for the shelter medicine specialty and is a past president and former board member of the Association of Shelter Veterinarians. She is also a member of the task force updating ASV’s Guidelines for Standards of Care in Animal Shelters.
K.C. Thompson
Shelter Operations Manager, Humane Society of Charlotte
K.C. Thompson is the Shelter Operations Manager for the Humane Society of Charlotte in Charlotte, N.C. K.C.’s interest in animal sheltering began with her volunteer work at Charlotte Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control. Since then, K.C. has committed her career to animal welfare, beginning in community outreach and later shifting her focus to shelter operations. Prior to animal welfare, K.C. worked in the advertising and marketing industry, where she studied human behavior trends and gained the ability to capture an audience through storytelling.
Katie Donohue
Associate Director of Behavior Services, Massachusetts SPCA
Katie Donohue is the Associate Director of Behavior Services - Adoption Centers, MSPCA-Angell. Katie works closely with a team of staff and volunteers to provide behavior support to an array of species across multiple shelters, with a focus on the dog population. She also works closely with members of the community by providing behavior support to improve adoption outcomes as well as prevent behavior-related relinquishment. Katie’s passion lies in providing science-based training opportunities to all species, with a focus on their basic husbandry. She enjoys working with her own dogs, cats, goats, and ducks to help each individual be an active participant in their daily care.
