Reducing Feline Stress Before Assessment

A relaxed cat is less likely to become ill in the shelter and is more likely to show his or her true personality. Many shelters adapted their intake procedures before implementing Meet Your Match to lower animal stress as much as possible.

The following recommendations aim to lower stress levels so cats are relaxed enough to be evaluated accurately, and ultimately to show better on the adoption floor.

Shelter Processes That Reduce Feline Stress

  • Examine and vaccinate animals as close to intake as possible
  • Spot clean cages when possible so cats don't have to be moved
  • Wait at least 18 hours before performing the Feline-ality Assessment so the cat has time to acclimate to new surroundings
  • Conduct spay/neuter surgeries after the Feline-ality assessment
