Shelter Medicine Full Time Veterinarian
Description
- Animal Medical Oversight: Conduct thorough medical examinations, diagnose illnesses, and develop treatment plans for shelter animals. Perform surgical procedures, including spay/neuter, as necessary and oversee post-operative care.
- Animal Care: Ensure the overall well-being of shelter animals by providing preventive care, administering medications, and monitoring their health on a regular basis.
- Public Health: Monitor and address potential public health concerns related to shelter animals, including disease recognition and management.
- Administration: Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records for all shelter animals. Work with administrative staff to manage medical supplies and pharmaceutical inventory.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Technical Aptitude: Demonstrate competency in surgical technique, disease recognition, euthanasia procedures, safety knowledge, and hazard identification.
Communication Skills: Exhibit excellent communication skills displaying professionalism and tactfulness at all times.
Licensing and Requirements: Possess a doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from an accredited university and hold a valid veterinary license in the State of South Dakota. The ability to become DEA licensed.
Experience: Previous experience in practicing in a small animal clinic or shelter environment is highly desirable.
Physical Capabilities:
- Animal Handling: Demonstrate capability for working with animals, veterinary supplies, and medicines.
- Physical Requirements: The role involves light to medium work, which may require regularly exerting up to 50 lbs. of force to lift or move objects.
- Work Environment: The work will mostly take place indoors, with some outside work and temperature changes involved. There may be noises from animals in the shelter environment.
Compensation: $90,000-110,000/year
Benefits:
The Sioux Falls Area Humane Society provides a monthly allowance after 90 days of employment of up to $100 to spend on benefits of your choice with reasonable group rates. If the cost is over $100/month, the premium overage would be made through payroll deductions.
