- Develop and implement a community-focused patrol model focusing on engaging and educating the community in animal related care.
- Understand Fulton County animal control ordinances and state laws regarding animals. Develop curriculum and teach classes to Field and Shelter staff relating to ordinance compliance, cruelty investigations, and disaster response.
- Prepare for and coordinate with Atlanta Fulton County Emergency Management for any type of disaster which might require the assistance of Field Services.
- Develop and implement new programs related to Field Services
- Provide guidance to agency needs related to court cases and court holds.
- Oversee daily audit of field activity to ensure all paperwork is completed accurately and follow-ups are scheduled and conducted in a timely manner. Flag any unusual activity and ensure issues are resolved quickly and professionally. Ensure that calls for service are investigated, correct, and complete before being finalized and filed.
- Provide a safe work environment for animals and employees.
- Interact with the public in a professional and knowledgeable manner to maintain public confidence and safety; speak at schools and to other community groups concerning animal control services.
- Provide direction and assistance on complex, controversial or politically sensitive Field Services cases; direct the preparation of detailed and comprehensive technical reports.
- Represent the Field Services Department as requested on legislative matters as a spectator and/or witness on legislative matters.
- Develop professional, cooperative relationships with law enforcement and other animal control agencies who operate within Fulton County.
- Prepare staff for court appearances, testimony, and depositions when needed so that information is presented accurately and professionally.
- Review and approve purchase request for department needs and essentials.
- Draft and file motions on behalf of the agency.
- Perform other duties as needed.
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in animal services field operations.
- Minimum 3 years experience in a Supervisor.
- Two-Year degree in criminal justice or animal welfare, required.
- NACA certification as ACO I, ACO II and ACO III, preferred.
- Certification in animal cruelty investigation.
- Valid, Georgia driver’s license and eligible for coverage under LifeLine’s auto insurance policy.
- Advanced knowledge of state and county animal control ordinances and laws.
- Expert animal handling skills for large and small animals.
- Considerable knowledge of animal welfare programs.
- Ability to prepare and maintain routine work records and reports.
- Valid, Georgia driver’s license and eligible for coverage under LifeLine’s auto insurance policy.
- Ability to supervise the work of assigned subordinates.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Must be available to work on weekends.
- Must pass background check and drug screening.
Education and/or Experience:
Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent. One+ years’ experience in animal related field preferred.
Language Skills:
Must be able to read and interpret kennel policy guidelines and policies and procedures. Must be able to communicate effectively to kennel visitors and provide good customer services skills.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- Certification in euthanasia may be required.
- Valid, Georgia Drivers license required.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, employee may be exposed to a kennel that is not air-conditioned and may be exposed to unpleasant kennel smells. May have to handle dogs and cats that are stray, injured, diseased or vicious.
